Hawaii offers a wide range of kid-friendly activities and attractions that cater to families with children of all ages. Here are some of the best kid-friendly activities on Oahu:

Beach Day:

Oahu boasts some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Head to family-friendly beaches like Waikiki Beach or Lanikai Beach, where kids can swim, build sandcastles, and play in the gentle waves. Just watch out for portuguese man-o-war about 1 week after a full moon when you visit the windward beaches on O’ahu like Lanikai Beach. Hanauma Bay:

This nature preserve is a fantastic spot for snorkeling. Kids can explore the underwater world and see colorful fish and coral in the calm, protected waters.

Honolulu Zoo:

Kids can see a wide range of animals from around the world at the Honolulu Zoo, including lions, tigers, and elephants. There is also a great play structure for kids to enjoy. It’s a great place for a family day out especially since it is at the end of Waikiki, which makes it convenient if you are staying in Honolulu. Keep in mind the zoo opens at 10, it closes at 3pm, and there is usually a long line if you do not have a zoo membership so plan ahead.

Polynesian Cultural Center:

This cultural center offers a hands-on learning experience for kids. They can explore different Polynesian cultures, watch performances, and participate in activities like traditional canoe rides. Don’t forget to check out the HA breath of life performance!

Shark’s Cove:

Located on the North Shore, Shark’s Cove is a tide pool area known for its fantastic snorkeling opportunities. Be sure to go to the tide pools on the left side of the beach for something that is more family-friendly. If you are a more experienced swimmer, the right side of the beach is a great spot to explore.

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa:

If you’re looking for a family-friendly resort experience, Aulani offers a range of activities and entertainment for kids, including character meet and greets, water slides, and a lazy river. You must stay at the resort to enjoy their entertainment options, but you can check out the lagoon in front of Aulani and when you’re there, be sure to head to the Aulani snack stand in front of the beach to indulge in yummy treats like their Minnie mouse, Moana, & stitch watermelon or pineapple whip cups. My kids love the Moana watermelon cup with fresh pineapples at the bottom of their waffle cup.

Diamond Head Hike:

The Diamond head trail is a great family friendly hike. It leads to a stunning panoramic view of Waikiki and Honolulu. Make sure to bring lots of water, hats, and wear comfortable footwear.

Luau:

Many luaus on Oahu are family-friendly and offer a chance for kids to experience traditional Hawaiian music, dance, and food. Check out the Luau at Waimea valley. You will also receive free admission to Waimea falls when you purchase tickets to the luau, so definitely take advantage of that!
