Each fall I fly in from Oahu for a limited run of Bay Area fall mini sessions with my long-time clients.

What is a fall mini session?

A fall mini session is a short, pre-scheduled family photoshoot — typically around 15 minutes, at a location and time I’ve already chosen and scouted. You don’t pick the date or place, which is the tradeoff, and it’s why minis cost less than a full session. You show up, I guide you, easy peasy!

Where I photograph in the Bay Area

Over the years I’ve photographed families in San Francisco, San Mateo, Portola Valley, and Palo Alto, mixing spots I’ve shot for years with new locations I scout each season. Past favorites include Filoli, the Stanford Cactus Garden, and a cypress grove in San Mateo.

Is 15 minutes really enough time?

Yes — and for families with young kids, it’s often better than longer. I work fast, and I know these locations well enough to use every minute. Families typically leave with the whole group together, each parent with the kids, siblings, and the candid frames in between. If your child needs more time you can book 2 mini sessions back to back.

Short sessions also keep kids in a good mood, which is most of the battle. However, if your child is not used to taking photos they might need a longer session. I also offer full photo sessions.

Who should book a mini session?

Families who want updated photos without planning a whole production — holiday cards, a yearly tradition, or anyone whose last good family photo is older than they’d like to admit.

Book a full session instead if you want a specific location, more time, or you’re bringing extended family.

When are Bay Area fall mini sessions offered?

Typically September through early November, when the light is warm and there’s still time for holiday card orders. I’m in the Bay Area twice a year — spring and fall — so dates are limited and usually fill from my email list before going public.
