🌺 1. Lanikai Beach – Sunrise Beauty with Calm Waters

Location: Kailua, Windward Oahu

If you’re looking for a breathtaking sunrise, soft sand, and calm waters, Lanikai Beach is a dream. We love visiting early in the morning for:

• Fewer crowds

• Cooler temps

• Easier street parking (just be sure to park in the correct direction!)

This beach is great for babies and toddlers, but keep an eye on the wind forecast. The windward side can get breezy, so if it’s especially windy, skip the beach umbrella unless you can secure it well.

☀️ Pro Tip: Avoid visiting about a week after a full moon, as Portuguese Man-o-War may be present. The water is usually calm and perfect for littles—our baby LOVES this beach, and so does her big sister!

🐚 2. Ko’olina – Calm, Lagoon-Style Beaches for Littles

Location: West Oahu, near Disney’s Aulani Resort

This is one of the most popular baby-friendly beach areas on Oahu, and for good reason! The Ko Olina lagoons offer gentle, shallow water that’s great for splashing, wading, and floating around with your baby.

🅿️ Parking Tip:

• Arrive early – sunrise early is best if you want to get a spot quickly for the smaller parking lots

• If there is no parking in the free lots, you can park at the shopping center and walk over – just be sure to park in the right parking stalls and pay for parking by looking at the sign which will inform you of how to do so

• Each lagoon has a public parking lot nearby

• Check the digital sign near the security booth as you enter Ko Olina—it shows how many spots are available at each lagoon

🐢 Don’t Miss: Paradise Cove Beach

Just a short walk from the main lagoons, Paradise Cove is another gem that’s perfect for babies and toddlers. Here’s why we love it:

• Calm shallow water 

• Tidepools for little ones to explore

• Frequent sightings of Hawaiian monk seals and sea turtles resting on the beach

  • remember to keep 3 parking space distance from monk seals and a distance from sea turtles as well – do not touch them
  • If a monk seal is in the water, I recommend getting out until they are on the beach

Paradise cove feels a little more secluded and adventurous, while still being incredibly kid-friendly. Just be mindful and respectful of the wildlife!

🌴 3. Kahana Beach Park – Calm, Cloudy, and Low-Key

Location: Windward Oahu

If you’re looking for a quiet, less crowded beach with gentle waves, Kahana Beach Park is a hidden gem. We love this spot because:

• The water is calm and shallow and great for stand-up paddling or beginner surfing

• Parking is easy, which is a big win when you’re juggling diaper bags, snacks, and beach gear

• The ocean here is not blue in color so keep that in mind, it is green

🏖️ 4. Waikiki Beach – Convenient & Calm for Hotel Guests

Location: Waikiki, Honolulu

If you’re staying in Waikiki, you really can’t beat the convenience of walking to the beach. Our favorite part of Waikiki Beach for babies is:

• Right in front of Starbucks near the zoo with the break wall – we don’t recommend using the restrooms in waikiki – also be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings. While Waikiki is convenient, it is not the safest of all of the beaches. Venture outside of Waikiki for a more unique and safer experience.

• Kaimana beach park is another great beach that is nearby but not in the middle of the craziness of waikiki

🅿️ Parking Tip:

• Park at the Honolulu Zoo if you’re not staying at a hotel nearby

• If you’re at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, try the lagoon out front or go to the left of the boat dock (facing the ocean) to avoid the rockier spots

• There’s free parking in front of the Hilton lagoon, but it fills up quickly—get there at sunrise for your best chance!
