Lifestyle Newborn Photographer San Francisco

Interested in a Newborn Session? Here you will find answers to commonly asked questions:

What do you recommend for outfits?

I love a softer and lighter feel for newborn photos, so I recommend light and muted colors for outfits, lace to add texture, or plain and simple blankets and muslin swaddles. However, I realize that not all clients are interested in that style and that’s ok! I do however have a client wardrobe with some dresses for mom as well as items for baby including swaddles, headbands (from Baby Bliss Props), white onesies and other simple outfits for baby that you are welcome to use and most of the items are aligned with this style.

Do you provide styling guidance or outfits for clients to borrow?

All sessions include optional styling assistance and access to the client wardrobe. I leave it up to the client to let me know whether or not they need assistance. I will provide general recommendations and allow the family to make the final decision.

What types of photos will you capture during our newborn session?

I usually start with the family photo and candid family photos, photos with siblings, baby alone, parents and baby (a babysitter or family member comes in handy here…or an activity that will keep your child occupied for at least 5-10 minutes), and then more photos of baby. However, you will let me know what your priority is for the shoot.

When should I book?

It is best to book during month 6-8 as I accept a limited amount of newborn sessions per month. However, my schedule does vary so please contact me and share your estimated due date or desired session date for more accurate information.

When will my session take place?

Once you deliver, you will contact me as soon as possible and I will share my availability. The ideal time if you want super sleepy photos of baby is under 10 days old. However, I can photograph your baby up to 2 months old as long as the photos are natural and I am not posing baby in any way.

My baby has already arrived. Is it too late to book a newborn session? Are you booked?

If you need to do your photoshoot in the next 3-7 days, I might have availability. It just depends on whether or not my current clients have had their babies on time. I do take a limited amount of newborns per month and most sessions are booked months in advance. However, most babies are not born exactly on their due date, so that allows me to have a little wiggle room for last minute sessions. It is not guaranteed though, so I would recommend booking in advance vs. waiting until after baby is born. Please email me for my current availability.

My baby is over 2 weeks old…did I miss the window for a newborn session?

Definitely not. I have done successful newborn shoots with babies as old as 2 months of age. Older babies won’t sleep as soundly as a brand new newborn under 10 days old, but we can still capture “newborn” style photos. The nice part about older babies is they are more alert so you’re able to interact with them which makes for some really adorable photos.

I don’t think we have great lighting in our home can we still do an in-home shoot?

I have worked in very small spaces with very minimal light. If you do not think think you have great light or if you aren’t sure, I will usually ask you to snap a quick photo of the rooms in your home and text it to me which will give me an idea of what we are working with. This will help me determine the best start time for your session and it will also allow me to create a game plan of where we will do your shoot prior to my arrival.

Do you have a maternity and newborn package?

I have a maternity session add-on option- Please email marissa.hbphoto@gmail.com for pricing.

Please note: A signed agreement/contract and 50% deposit are required prior to confirmation of booking. Your final payment is due within 48 hours after your session.
