Transportation options for your trip to O’ahu | Honolulu Family Photographer
Aloha, Oahu travelers! If you’re planning a visit to O’ahu you might be wondering how you will get around.
I’ve compiled a list of transportation options that many of my clients use when they are visiting Oahu. Keep in mind you can use most of these options (except for the shuttle) to get to your photo session as well.
Shuttle Services
Shuttle services are a convenient and hassle-free way to travel from the airport to your destination. Numerous shuttle providers operate at Honolulu Airport, offering shared rides to popular hotels and resorts, including Aulani. These shuttles provide a cost-effective option for solo travelers or smaller groups. Keep in mind that shared rides might take slightly longer due to multiple drop-offs, but they’re a great opportunity to meet fellow travelers and soak in the sights along the way. If you are not looking to share a ride, definitely consider other options.

Rental Cars
Turo
If you’re looking for a unique twist on traditional car rentals, consider Turo, a car-sharing platform that connects travelers with local car owners. Turo offers a variety of vehicles, from economy cars to luxury SUVs, giving you the opportunity to find a car that matches your preferences perfectly. This peer-to-peer car rental service can add an extra layer of authenticity to your Hawaiian adventure, as you drive from the airport to Aulani in a vehicle owned by a local resident. Just be sure to book in advance and review the terms and conditions before embarking on this distinctive driving experience including the reviews. Also reach out to your insurance and consider using Turo’s insurance as typically car-sharing is NOT covered under many car insurance plans.
Standard Car Rentals
For those seeking flexibility and autonomy during their stay, renting a car is an excellent choice. Honolulu Airport boasts several car rental companies, allowing you to select the vehicle that suits your needs. Having a car gives you the freedom to explore the island at your own pace and discover hidden gems off the beaten path. The scenic drive from the airport to Aulani is approximately 17 miles and offers breathtaking coastal views, making your journey as memorable as the destination.
Ride-Sharing Services
Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft have gained popularity worldwide, and Hawaii is no exception. They offer convenience and the option to choose between various vehicle types, depending on your group size and preferences. Ride-sharing services can be a good balance between affordability and comfort, making them a viable option for many travelers. If you’re looking for a ride to your photo session and it is a good distance (30+ min) many of my clients have asked their lyft or uber driver to just stay and wait for them, and they are usually more than happy to, so it is worth asking!
Traditional Taxis
Traditional taxis remain a reliable choice for transportation from the airport to Aulani. Taxis are readily available at designated taxi stands outside the terminal. Although they might be a bit more expensive than other options, they provide a direct and straightforward route to your destination. If you value convenience and a personalized experience, a taxi or a limousine service might be the way to go.
